It's been while since Prada has expanded on its collection of keychains, referred to as Trick. The previous Trick keychains and array of accessories have mostly consisted of small robots created from odds and ends of mechanical paraphernalia. This November, Prada will introduce slightly more 'organic' companions to the family of Trick robots.
Called Pradamalia (a portmanteau of 'Prada' and 'Animalia'), they're what the press notes define as "one part biological, one part technological, all parts Prada". You'd instantly notice the similarities to the famed robotic Tricks. Each Pradamalia is made up of a combination of different materials such as wood, Saffiano leather and metal. But they are slightly more refined in design, rather than looking like Frankenstein-created creatures. The Pradamalia collection is a collaborative effort with 2×4 New York, the design company that was responsible for Prada's comic-inspired spring/summer 2018 womenswear runway set.
There are seven Pradamalia creatures in total, of which five are based on real-life animals. Spot resembles a slug, the aptly-named Scuba looks like a jellyfish, Socks is derived from Man's best friend, while Otto and Toto are modelled after a pair of monkeys. The more alien-looking Fiddle and Disco complete the set.
The Pradamalia collection extends beyond the seven keychains. There will also be an extensive selection of jewellery, tech accessories, as well as small leather goods, all featuring the new creations. But the Tricks are the definitely highlight of the collection and will come in a specially designed packaging (reminiscent of those by toy companies), which includes an extensive backstory of each Pradamalia. Sweet.
The Pradamalia collection will be available in Prada boutiques and prada.com from November 2018.
