Sylvester Stallone is a big fan of sporty watches and a fan of big sporty watches. If you watched The Expendables you would not have missed that crazy huge 47mm Panerai Bronzo PAM382 that sat on his—and all the other Expendables’—wrist looking like a regular-sized watch. Yet Stallone isn’t your typical muscle guy, as luxury watch independent Richard Mille recently discovered.
In addition to acting, Stallone writes, directs, produces and known only to very few people, he also paints. Yes, this super macho actor has a soft, quiet side too, although his creations are more of the audacious, expressionistic sort, rather than demure watercolour paintings.

In getting to know Stallone, Richard Mille realised very early on that to make a watch for this all-round screen hero, he couldn’t simply stuff a couple of technical complications into an existing model. Like what transpired with Alain Prost, Rafael Nadal, and Pablo Mac Donough in sports, Mille studied the personality, understood their preoccupations and as much as possible observed them at their best. Only then would he be able to produce a watch worthy of the name Richard Mille, and that didn’t only meet the criteria of the recipient, but of Mille as well.

The first thing that would come to mind when you see the RM25-01 Tourbillon Adventure Sylvester Stallone is: Holy Smokes! What am I looking at? Well the watch is a lot of things and by that we mean that other than telling the time, it has been equipped with a host of additional instruments an adventurous guy like Stallone would ostensibly appreciate.

Firstly, there’s the time display and the chronograph, which have been made as legible as possible with two orange oversized hour and minute hands and one black chronograph seconds hand tipped in red. The sub-dials and other displays are a little difficult to read though, we must admit, but that’s hardly the coolest thing about the watch.

To be fit for extreme adventure, the RM25-01 Tourbillon Adventure Sylvester Stallone comes with two interchangeable bezels, one which is a bidirectional bezel made of Carbon TPT and another, a compass bezel. That’s right, this watch is beginning to kick serious ass isn’t it? It has a detachable compass bezel and lid made of DLC-coated grade 5 titanium and equipped with a bayonet mount.

Detached from the watch, the compass may be affixed to a plate made of Carbon TPT which is ideal for navigation. This configuration provides—among other things—lines indicating the direction to take when following a course on a map.

More insane features include a titanium-cased spirit level which makes it possible to hold the watch perfectly horizontal in order to preserve the accuracy of sightings against the compass needle. And then there’s the hermetic compartment made in Carbon TPT that contains five water purification capsules, each capable of rendering a litre of any water safe to drink in 30 to 120 minutes, depending on the level of pollution—now this truly makes the RM25-01 Tourbillon Adventure Sylvester Stallone a potential life saver. Put in another way, if you were ever lost in a jungle or marooned on a deserted island, pray to the island gods that this is the watch you’re wearing on the wrist.

With a round case made of a combination of Carbon TPT and titanium, RM25-01 Tourbillon Adventure Sylvester Stallone is delivered with a natural rubber strap sporting a camouflage motif plus a pin buckle in grade 5 titanium. Rumour’s got it that Stallone’s going ahead with The Expendables 4, and if he really does, don’t forget to keep an eye out for this bad boy.
