Travel has, especially in the past year or so, meant more than just flying over to another country. The idea is that even in the smallest of ways, we're constantly travelling—never exactly still at one spot. In a way, that's exactly how RIMOWA has evolved to be more than a luggage brand meant for travellers; RIMOWA wants to be part of every step in one's journey through life.
There's still a sense of wonder in RIMOWA's design ethos, of course. It's seasonal colours are inspired by some of the world's most beautiful locales, whether they're far-flung, almost mystical destinations like Iceland, or familiar landscapes within our region. This season, RIMOWA referenced Thailand's floating markets for its latest duo of Essential colours: Bamboo and Mango.
Bamboo's shade of soft green is a nod to the locally grown plant that's used for construction as well as in local cuisine. The bright and punchy Mango is quintessentially Thai—a tropical fruit that's an essential ingredient in a lot of recipes, and especially the well-known mango sticky rice. Together, they're a colourful reminder of the spirit and energy that Thailand has to offer.
As with every seasonal colour, Bamboo and Mango are available in RIMOWA's Essential suite of luggage. The smallest comes in the form of the Essential Cabin, followed by the Check-in L, and finally the roomiest Trunk Plus. The colours are also extended to RIMOWA's more lifestyle-skewed accessories. These include the game-changing Personal case in Bamboo as well as the newly introduced Crossbody Flap bag that's crafted in canvas with a Mango-coloured leather flap—both indispensable and stylish companions for one's journey.
It has hit home that travel—especially now that we're not able to do so as freely—is part of being human. Whether it's experiencing new cultures and environments or just being in a different country altogether, we've grown accustomed to the idea of exploring the unfamiliar. But like RIMOWA's evolved definition of travel, it's definitely more than all that.
Together with writer and performance poet Jennifer Anne Champion, we explore the new nuances of travel and more importantly, the journey we all take through life.
The Drive To Keep Moving
I want to be like bamboo.
To grow and grow in spite
of the wood cutter’s knife.
A sturdy kind of dependable.
A furious red turning to
green—which is to say
I mean business.
I will graze the top
and push past stop
yet still remember
the place where it started.
Always climbing,
My heart, a shoot—
racing towards sky.
Holiday In My Head
Inside me is a sea
and sand that never gets
between my toes.
A perfect heaven
from the answers I don't know.
I turn the key on myself.
My bags, packed
for a breeze that heeds
no other.
Imagining fresh mango
and the sweetness
of a soft hand
resting on mine.
