The luxury luggage brand Rimowa has always counted innovation as a core value. From its heritage in manipulating unique materials to its present day forays into highly collectible creative collaborations. The latest frontier for the brand, it seems, is the metaverse. To do this, Rimowa has collaborated with RTFKT, a leading brand that combines culture and gaming in the Web3 space.

Rimowa and RTFKT's idea with this collection is to merge the worlds of digital and physical craftsmanship. To that end, the two brands have designed a limited edition Rimowa x RTFKT Original Cabin suitcase, decorated with pixelated motifs that reference the anonymity of the digital realm, as well as a range of collectible NFTs. The suitcase itself is limited to just 888 pieces in both its NFT and physical forms.

In RTFKT fashion, this project also comes with a game-like challenge that unlocks access to drops and items. The interactive campaign is set in an imagined factory space station that even has lore behind worker and artisan robots that create gear for explorers. The story is that the station has been hacked and taken over by a virus, shutting down the worker and artisan robots. The community then has to reactivate and restore the station in order to mint the limited edition NFTs.

After this challenge, a digital event will be held where holders of the NFTs will be able to forge their assets, essentially redeeming a physical version of the Original Cabin suitcase. There will also be other assets unveiled at this event, such as avatar wearables and 2222 NFTs of the worker robot.
"To enter the metaverse with RTFKT is truly exciting," said Rimowa Chief Marketing Officer Emelie de Vitis in a press release. "[It] allows us to explore what travel means there," she added, citing the medium's trait of taking collaborations and creativity to new heights. This time, it seems, those heights are far above the stratosphere.
