For a whisky known to be 'Created for Celebration', Royal Salute gives another reason for commemoration. In its latest addition to its Kingdom Collection, for the first time, this particular 26-year-old is finished in oak casks made from the forests of Scotland. These rare oak adds a "toasted flavour" to the Royal Salute blend.
Royal Salute Master Blender, Sandy Hyslop, sourced these sustainable-managed forest in Scotland. "For this unique expression, I wanted to really encapsulate and balance the robust and distinctive flavours of wild Scottish oak casks into a blend that carries all the quality hallmarks expected of Royal Salute," Hyslop says. "Working with such precious casks was an extremely meticulous yet exciting task and adding this rare finish to the new blend has not only allowed us to release a whisky that offers a whole new dimension for Royal Salute lovers to discover, it also perfectly depicts the captivating and wondrous characteristics of Scotland.”
The result is a whisky that offers a medley a sweet and nutty profile. Bolstered by the aromatic notes of toasted oak and subtle spices that lends itself to a nice, long and rich finish. Bottled in an earthy green flagon, that's hearkens to the foliated earth deity of English yore, the Green Man; the verdancy that's inspired by where the Scottish oak is found.
