Saint Laurent has been paving its own way since the pandemic—choosing to show off-schedule and on its own terms. For its return to a proper runway show setting, the fashion house has chosen to present the Saint Laurent spring/summer 2022 menswear collection in Venice, Italy.
In line with his frequent collaborations with artists and film-makers, creative director Anthony Vaccarello has commissioned multimedia artist Doug Aitken as part of the Saint Laurent spring/summer 2022 men's runway show. The result is a large-scale site-specific installation running side by side with the ongoing Architecture Biennale held in Venice. The installation will also be accessible to the public until 30 July 2021.
The artistic partnership symbolises an integration between the realms of art and architecture. Known for his previous site-specific installations, Aitken—a recipient of the International Prize at the Venice Biennale in 1999—conceptualised the installation as a celebration of a multifaceted point of view across different disciplines. All in all, it reaffirms Vaccarello's vision for Saint Laurent as more than just a fashion house.
