For the first day of Paris Fashion Week Men's AW20, Sankuanz clashed tailoring with spikes and AMI celebrated its ninth anniversary with a stage show.
SANKUANZ: NEON RAGER
Designer: Shangguan Zhe
10-word show review: Tailoring meets neon punk rager with a predilection for spikes.
Favourite look: For the ironically dapper Sankuanz lover, that oversized notch-lapel suit in a deep rust-orange worn over a khaki turn-down collar shirt, and finished with a black tie held down with a cross-sword brass tie bar (look 24). For the non-ironic Sankuanz pure blood, that crafty black gilet embellished with long strips of metal fringing, worn over a workwear jacket spruced up with oversized safety pins, and paired with black jeans anchored with circular metal hoops sewn into its hem (look 32).
Favourite accessory: Here's how to piss off your conservative Asian parents. Step one: pierce your ears. Step two: wear those arrowhead earrings from Sankuanz. Want to be a contradiction? Accessorise with clear square-framed spectacles to pay homage to your geeky past. Step three: prepare for hours of guilt tripping about how your parents "gave up everything for you and now you do this".
AMI: WHERE'S WALLY?
Designer: Alexandre Mattiussi
10-word show review: Celebrating nine years with a fun, fantastical and fearless showstopper.
Favourite look: Check out the insouciant elegance of look 15 with its ecru single-breasted blazer worn under a double-breasted full-length top coat, accented with the soothing pop of cream in flat-front tailored trousers. Who needs a shirt when you have such great outerwear? Talking about going sans shirt, if you want to start a party and look devastatingly dashing in the process, you can't go wrong with that blood red DB with matching trousers in look 39.
Favourite accessory: For a dose of whimsy, with a healthy nod to Where's Wally?, throw on one of those thin red-and-white knit scarves. Outfit looking too run-of-the-mill? Striped knit scarf to the rescue. Wearing an Argyle sweater and want to level up the eccentricity? You guessed it; striped knit scarf. Practically indispensable.
