It was a relatively quiet 2020 for H&M. The big-named fashion designer collaborations that have since become an annual tradition for the brand, took a pause and made room for multiple small-scale collaborations with more emerging and independent designers.
H&M has just announced that it's starting off 2021 with a new collaboration, and this time with Dublin-born fashion designer Simone Rocha. The award-winning womenswear designer is known for her subversive approach to femininity, with a signature use of voluminous proportions, embellished details, and interesting fabrications.
Simone Rocha x H&M will mark the designer's first official foray into menswear and childrenswear. While not much is known about how the former will shape up, we do see a peek of pearls lining the collar of a white shirt as worn by stylist Robbie Spencer in the announcement video. A press statement released reveals that Simone Rocha x H&M is set to be rather extensive as well. Each womenswear, menswear and childrenswear collection will include pieces for special occasions, knitwear, shirting, outerwear, T-shirts, and accessories (including jewellery and pearl-embellished everything).
As with most designer collaborations at H&M, the collection will be a reworking of the Simone Rocha archive—one that's celebrating a 10-year milestone—and especially the defining collections that have shaped the brand. Rocha has also worked on bespoke fabrications that are specific to Simone Rocha x H&M, which were developed in-house.
Rocha is by no means a stranger to collaborations. The designer has been one of the founding collaborators of Moncler's Moncler Genius project since 2018, and has continued to interpret the Italian brand's iconic down fabric in her own vision for the third year running.
The Simone Rocha x H&M collection is set to launch worldwide on 11 March 2021.
