It's a whole new year and hopefully, it'll shape up to be more promising than 2020. On the sneaker front, 2021 is starting to sound pretty exciting with the announcements of some stellar (and questionable) releases to be dropped sometime in the year. But for now, we're focusing on the drops that are scheduled for the second week of 2021.
On Cop the Drop this week, we take a look at three very different footwear. First up is a new iteration of the Air Jordan 13, followed by an exclusive colourway for the alway hype YEEZYs. And lastly, a three-in-one footwear that's built for the outdoors.
As always, we'll be breaking down our recommendations of whether each sneaker is a worthy investment (or not). It's not all fun and games, after all.
Ready? Let's get into it then.
Commodity: Air Jordan 13 'Starfish'
Like the rest of the Air Jordans, the AJ13 is a performance sneaker that looks just as good one courts as on the streets. The 'Starfish Orange' colourway makes it mark on the sneaker (it has been translated onto a spate of other Air Jordan sneakers) with a white quilted leather upper. The holographic cat's eye is retained on the heel and topped off with an ultra supportive carbon-fibre shank plate.
Where: Nike
When: 16 January 2020
How: Add to cart
Retail: SGD269
Price of the Air Jordan 13 'Starfish' on the resale market in the last 7 days: Peaking at SGD506 with a low of SGD477. The average sale price is SGD291.
Recommendation: Not great for resale.
We're not saying that you shouldn't put this up for resale; you can. But the chances of getting decent returns on a pair is pretty slim. At the time of publishing, there's still a healthy number of stocks left on Nike so the supply is outweighing the demand on this iteration of the AJ13s
Commodity: adidas YEEZY BOOST 380 'Yecoraite RF'
Kanye West and adidas is kicking things off with the reflective YEEZY BOOST 380 for 2021. The Asia Pacific-exclusive colourway is a departure from the darker colourways in the past, especially with the use of reflective threads set against a white tone base. This is one pair of sneakers that'll definitely cause anyone to instantly stand out.
Where: adidas
When: 16 January 2020
How: Add to cart
Retail: SGD370
Price of the adidas YEEZY BOOST 380 'Yecoraite RF' on the resale market in the last 7 days: Peaking at SGD544 with a low of SGD454. The average sale price is SGD514.
Recommendation: Short it.
It's a pair of YEEZYs. There's no doubt that a pair will fetch a pretty decent price on the resale market, especially since they're exclusively only to this part of the world.
Commodity: New Balance TDS Niobium Concept 1 'Grey'
With the New Balance TDS Niobium Concept 1, you're essentially getting three footwear for the price of one. The New Balance Tokyo Design Studio creation is specifically made for the outdoors—there's the high-cut hiking boot, that unzips and can take the appearance of a low-cut mule, and then a pair of liners for wearing within the confines of a tent. Brilliant.
Where: Dover Street Market and Limited Edt
When: 15 January 2020
How: Add to cart
Retail: SGD359
Price of the New Balance TDS Niobium Concept 1 'Grey' on the resale market in the last 7 days: At the time of publication, there has been no sighting of the New Balance TDS Niobium Concept 1 ‘Grey’ on the resale market.
Recommendation: Not for resale.
It's not the typical hype-driven sneaker so there may be quite a slow uptake. Having said that, this particular iteration is the most street-friendly and stylish colourway yet. You may want to hold on to this for a while but there are no guarantees that it'll fare well on the resale market.
