One can never be too sure what's around the corner in the sneaker world, especially when it comes to the return of certain silhouettes and collaborations. It's difficult to know if we'd ever see a certain design ever again. And it's made even harder to predict with new releases dropping almost on a daily basis.
On Cop the Drop this week, we take a look at the return of three coveted sneaker designs and collaborations. First up is a true-to-the-original revival of a sneaker icon, followed by a second collaboration between Nike and a music star. And lastly, the return of AMBUSH and Converse.
As always, we'll be breaking down our recommendations of whether each sneaker is a worthy investment (or not). It's not all fun and games, after all.
Ready? Let's get into it then.
Commodity: Air Jordan 4 'Fire Red'
There's no doubt that the AJ4 has made a significant mark in the annals of sneaker culture since its release. The original made its debut in 1989 and featured three different colourways, of which this reissue (almost three decades later) is one. And everything that was included in the original—the vintage Nike Air branding on the heel as well as the hangtag—remains, for a truly stitch-by-stitch remake.

Price of the Air Jordan 4 'Fire Red' on the resale market in the last 7 days: Peaking at SGD431 with a low of SGD308. The average sale price is SGD340.
Recommendation: Go long.
Only because by the looks of it, the resale price could potentially be hovering around SGD334 for quite a while. And while that's not that great of a profit margin, it's not entirely a loss. But perhaps, demand could pick up in the future, so if you're one to keep a pair of sneakers in pristine condition, it could bode well for you.
Commodity: Nike Air Force 1 Low x PEACEMINUSONE 'Para-noise 2.0'
G-Dragon's not just a K-pop icon; he's a fashion star in his own right. Back with a second collaboration with the Nike Air Force 1 under his PEACEMINUSONE label, the second iteration of the massively popular sneaker sees a simpler colourway in white with a black Swoosh, and topped with a daisy logo at the tongue. But just like the original, the white upper is made to wear away to reveal a design by the artist himself.

Price of the Nike Air Force 1 Low x PEACEMINUSONE 'Para-noise 2.0' on the resale market in the last 7 days: Peaking at SGD1,058 with a low of SGD382. The average sale price is SGD680.
Recommendation: Short it.
There's only one way to go about this: flip it as soon as you can. Compared to the limited geographical release of the original, this iteration received a global release, which means that there's a tad less exclusivity to this particular colourway, but still a pair that's very much coveted. Flip it and be rewarded with a decent amount of profit.
Commodity: Converse x AMBUSH CTAS Duck Boot 'Black'
With its sophomore effort with Converse, AMBUSH put its spin on a pair of the former's heritage Duck Boots. It does somewhat remind us of an earlier collaboration between Converse and A-COLD-WALL*, but packed with more cushioning around the cuff and a sleeker all-black finish.

Price of the Converse x AMBUSH CTAS Duck Boot 'Black' on the resale market in the last 7 days: Peaking at SGD335 with a low of SGD218. The average sale price is SGD276.
Recommendation: Go long.
The resale price of the Converse x AMBUSH CTAS Duck Boot has been slowly declining since its release but we're attributing it to the fact that it has yet to be completely sold out everywhere—there are still sizes remaining at the time of publication but they're at the extreme ends. Our recommendation is based on the figures of AMBUSH's previous collaboration with Converse that has since seen a spike this year. And that's something that could potentially happen with this particular pair as well.
Previous drops…
We're not big on Thanksgiving this side of the world. But one thing for sure, is that we're thankful for the constant onslaught of sneaker drops that keep coming (and are still coming) towards the end of 2020. It beats having to deal with how the year has been so far.
On Cop the Drop this week, we take a look at two of Nike's best this week as well as a Converse collaboration. First up is a genius design by Concepts, followed by the second collaboration between Converse and Brain Dead. And to round it off, the first reissue of a Dunk Low colourway that made its debut back in 2001.
As always, we'll be breaking down our recommendations of whether each sneaker is a worthy investment (or not). It's not all fun and games, after all.
Ready? Let's get into it then.
Commodity: Nike SB Dunk High x Concepts 'Mallard'
Also known as the 'TurDUNKen' (that's a portmanteau of 'turkey', 'dunk' and 'chicken', if you're wondering), the latest collaboration between Nike and Concepts comes just in time for the American Thanksgiving holiday. And it's quite a genius concept. The entire sneaker is designed to resemble a male mallard—the quarter panel is with leather that mimics the texture of feathers, fuzzy panels are added to take on the feel and appearance of soft down, and the Swoosh are done in dual iridescent leathers. Quirky but also impressive.

Price of the Nike SB Dunk High x Concepts 'Mallard' on the resale market in the last 7 days: Peaking at SGD1,242 with a low of SGD417. The average sale price is SGD724.
Recommendation: Short it immediately.
There's a reason why Nike x Concepts sneakers do really well on the resale market, and that mainly has to do with the originality behind each, well, concept. This one in particular may be gimmicky, but also one that's very inspired. We'd keep one for keepsakes but if you're looking to turn a profit, do it immediately.
Commodity: Converse Bosey MC x Brain Dead
Brain Dead returns with its second collaboration with Converse (a brand that's been amping up with pretty stellar collaborations of late). This time, the Bosey MC—a new take on the latter's wading shoe—is packed with a utilitarian nod to the original with stacked rubber soles, rubber toe caps and splendid layering of materials. Brain Dead's signature aesthetic is represented through the print used as well as the lacing details.

Price of the Converse Bosey MC x Brain Dead on the resale market in the last 7 days: There has been no sale made on StockX at the time of publication. However, the lowest asking price for a pair is SGD316.
Recommendation: Go long.
We're basing this on the 2018 collaboration that it's still doing reasonably well on StockX. At the time of publication, the pair is still easily available on Dover Street Market Singapore so this is something you shouldn't flip immediately. Hold on to this for a while and you may be rewarded with some decent profits.
Commodity: Nike Dunk Low 'Ceramic'
The 'Ceramic' colourway of the Dunk Low is back after almost two years since it's first release in 2001. And it's in almost every way, try to the original—mesh tongues, woven tongue labels, and embroidered 'Nike' right at the heel tab—but reworked in premium suede (as with a lot of Nike reissues these days). But the highlight of course, is in the beautiful combination of colours.

Price of the Nike Dunk Low 'Ceramic' on the resale market in the last 7 days: Peaking at SGD469 with a low of SGD269. The average sale price is SGD316.

If you're looking for a quick buck, flip this immediately. Not only is the colourway pretty sought after, it's also a part of sportswear history. Having said that, why wouldn't you want to keep this for yourself?
Previous drops…
It's almost the tail end of the year, but the sneaker drops keep on coming. Which is not a bad thing at all considering that the festive season (although it will undoubtedly be a totally different situation this year) is just right around the corner. Time to treat yourself after the year we've been having.
On Cop the Drop this week, we take a look at three sneakers that are fresh in their own right. First on the list is a new, almost all-white take on a Nike icon. We then have a second art-inspired drop by Vans, as well as an entirely new sneaker design by Nike.
As always, we'll be breaking down our recommendations of whether each sneaker is a worthy investment (or not). It's not all fun and games, after all.
Ready? Let's get into it then.
Commodity: Nike Dunk High 'Pure Platinum'
Nike's Dunk Low has been pretty much the focus for the first half of the year. Now, the high-cut version is getting the attention it deserves with the 'Pure Platinum' colourway. While it does seem like it's an entirely white treatment from sole to upper, there's a subtle contrast with the Swooshes done in a light grey.

Retail: SGD199
Price of the Nike Dunk High 'Pure Platinum' on the resale market in the last 7 days: Peaking at SGD378 with a low of SGD236. The average sale price is SGD282.
Recommendation: Short it.
You may want to short this, seeing how the resale price has been floating around SGD270 for the past couple of days (which isn't a bad profit margin). The Dunk High is undoubtedly a classic and with this 'Pure Platinum' colourway a throwback to some of the silhouette's most cherished treatments, we're predicting some strong demand once it's official dropped.
Commodity: Vans Authentic MoMA 'Jackson Pollock'
Vans continues its collaboration with New York's Museum of Modern Art with a second release. New (and what we consider one of the standouts) is the Vans Authentic that's been given a Jackson Pollock treatment. Art purists would appreciate the Pollock's 'One: Number 31' painting reflected as a wearable piece of art, while Vans fans would notice the commitment to the print—every single visible part of the shoe is covered in it.

Price of the Vans Authentic MoMA 'Jackson Pollock' on the resale market in the last 7 days: There has been no sale made on StockX at the time of publication. However, the lowest asking price for a pair is SGD179.
Recommendation: Short it.
Based on the previous drop, we'd recommend flipping it straight away. There's a trend among the MoMA collaboration pieces to depreciate in value over time so if you're looking for some profits with this one, get on it fast.
Commodity: Nike Air Max Zephyr 'Lime'
It's not often that Nike invests in a new silhouette, especially with the countless revivals and new colourways that are released weekly. The Air Max Zephyr is the latest to employ the brand's Air Max technology with a super performance-driven design that's set on a large 720 Air unit for that comfort that it touts. It's sleek and futuristic—two attributes that are always good to have in a pair of sneakers.

Price of the Nike Air Max Zephyr 'Lime' on the resale market in the last 7 days: There has been no sale made on StockX at the time of publication. However, the lowest asking price for a pair is SGD472.
Recommendation: Hold on to this for a while.
It's tricky to predict the reception when it comes to new sneaker designs. The Air Max range has done pretty well in general on the resale market and this could go the same way as well. But we'd hang on to this for a while more before deciding to flip it, even if the asking price for a pair is very optimistic.
Previous drops…
We're kicking off strong this month with a slate of pretty coveted sneaker releases. The autumn/winter fashion collections are more or less out in full force and with that, we're getting official drops of sneaker collaborations that we've seen on the runways months ago. Is it too early to stock up on Christmas gifts? (Never).
On Cop the Drop this week, we take a look at two fashion collaborations and a new release of a sneaker icon. Craig Green is continues on with a sophomore effort with adidas Originals by tackling one of the latter's most iconic silhouettes, while Sacai is back with another multidimensional collaboration with Nike. And Jordan Brand continues celebrating the AJ5 with a release that's hardly safe.
As always, we'll be breaking down our recommendations of whether each sneaker is a worthy investment (or not). It's not all fun and games, after all.
Ready? Let's get into it then.
Commodity: adidas Originals by Craig Green Superstar 'Off White/Bright Red/Grey Three'
Craig Green is back with a second round of collaboration with adidas Originals. And this time, the British designer added his own spin on the iconic Superstar. What resembles technical fabric on the upper is actually premium microsuede that's been topstitched to recreate Green's signature use of quilting in his designs. Even the Three Stripes insignia takes on a topstitched approach in a striking orange. This is definitely not the usual Superstar, but one that is still instantly recognisable.

Price of the adidas Originals by Craig Green Superstar 'Off White/Bright Red/Grey Three' on the resale market in the last 7 days: At the time of publication, there's been no sign of the Craig Green Superstar 'Off White/Bright Red/Grey Three' on StockX. However, an adidas CONFIRMED-exclusive colourway that was released in October went for SGD373.
Recommendation: Hold on to this for a while.
Looking at the resale trends for previous adidas Originals by Craig Green drops, there's a general sense that the sneakers perform better after a while. It's difficult to be definitive with this particular silhouette, given that it is an entirely new take, but we'd recommend holding on to this for a while before deciding to flip it.
Commodity: Nike x Sacai VaporWaffle 'Black and White'
There are not that many Nike collaborations with fashion brands that one can say for sure will be super coveted. The Sacai collaborations thus far have been surefire winners. Somewhat an expansion of the LDWaffle of 2019, the VaporWaffle takes on that similar layered approach but this time done by combining Nike's Vaporfly with the 1983's Pegasus silhouette. The result is less streamlined as compared to the LDWaffle but amped up in terms of that boundary-pushing Sacai aesthetic.

Price of the Nike x Sacai VaporWaffle 'Black and White' on the resale market in the last 7 days: Peaking at SGD1,113 with a low of SGD502. The average sale price is SGD802.
Recommendation: Short it immediately.
We'd personally keep this for ourselves, thank you very much. But if you're intending to reap some profits (if you've managed to cop a pair, that it), the best course of action is to put it up for resale immediately; you're more or less guaranteed a 50 percent profit.
Commodity: Air Jordan 5 'What The'
Jordan Brand has been ramping up its releases for the AJ5 this year as part of the sneaker's 30th anniversary. There are probably quite a few more to round off the year but next up is the 'What The' edition that's anything but staid. It's slightly chaotic but in the best way. This particular AJ5 is a combination of past non-OG colour ways and materials all in one, including the 'Tokyo' on the right side, 'Raging Bull' on the left, with accents of 'Green Bean', 'Army Olive', 'Quai 54' and more. Put simply, this is probably the best pair to celebrate 30 years of an icon.

Recommendation: Go long.
This is bound to be one of those sneakers that could potentially fetch more on the resale market due to its unique treatment. The resale price has seen a declining trend since mid-October but we're quite certain this could pick up in the long run. It may pay off to be patient with this one.
