Speakers, speakers, speakers; we're all surrounded by this wall of sound. Sonos is no different. With a catalogue of sound systems like the Play:5, the Beam, the Playbar, and now the audio company adds the Arc to its lineup.
Packed in its signature minimalist form, the soundbar divvies up a sound that needs to be heard to be believed.
Available in matte black or matte white colourways, the sleek-looking Arc boasts 11 drivers—three tweeters and eight woofers—to deliver that surround-sound effects you get from the confines of the theatres. Encoded with Dolby Atmos, the Arc uses Sonos’ Trueplay tuning tech to get the lay of the room and provide an acoustic profile.
This means that not only do you get your horizontal sound, but you also get it vertically as well, thanks to the sound waves bouncing off from the ceiling (though we suspect that effect is lost if you have a ceiling fan). Users can also further refine their sound in the Sonos app with Speech Enhancement so that you get clarified vocals or Night Sound for toning down noises.
Some TVs might not be Dolby Atmos-compatible (so check with your TV dealer on that) and given the length of the soundbar, TVs that are smaller than 50 inches might look… odd next to it. Other features of the Arc are voice activation with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant and Apple AirPlay 2.
