In yesterday's State of Play from Sony, we got an 18-minute gameplay of Ghost of Tsushima. The footage gives us clarity on the game mechanics such as combat and exploration. Set in 13th century Feudal Japan, you play as Jin Sakai, a survivor of a Mongol attack. The video showcases Jin's combat styles—one where you fight as a samurai, openly challenging an enemy in a standoff or one where you fight as "the dishonourable ghost", employing stealth and underhanded techniques to assassinate your enemies.
Players have the open world of Ghost of Tsushima to explore in. Instead of your traditional navigational waypoints, where your player follows an arrow's direction or a mini-map in the HUD (head's up display), Ghost uses diegetic cues such as the wind direction that points you towards your destination. Animals, that you encounter, can also lead you to secret areas.
Another neat feature that we've seen is an option to have a Japanese voice track (with English subtitles) or choose the Japanese cinematic mode, where your adventure takes place in a grainy black-and-white world.
Ghost of Tsushima retail at SGD79.90 (Standard Edition) or at SGD97.90 (Deluxe Edition) and will be released on 17th July 2020. This will be a PlayStation exclusive. Pre-orders are now open.
