Everybody associate bombolonis with sweet fillings. But the doughnut is container that can be filled with every other flavours. Our go-to pastry dealer, The Fat Kid Bakery, trods the path less taken to give us savoury sourdough bombos.
To begin, there will be four flavours like the Sour Cream and Onion, which is a whipped sour cream mix and topped with spring onions. There's the Roasted Garlic Mascarpone (our favourite) is exactly as its named, with grated Parmesan and cracked black pepper sprinkled over it. The Spicy Egg Mayo contains egg salad blended with aromatic spices and finishing up this quartet is the Tuna Nori Crunch. Inspired by Japanese flavours, this carries the savoury elements of tuna and nori. We could taste cucumber slivers but they were buried under the intense flavours of the tuna.
The Fat Kid Bakery sells a box of four of the aforementioned savoury-flavoured bombos. Will there be more savoury options? Something seasonal, perhaps? We don't know but we can't wait for it.
