While the public awaits the sequel to Stephen King's It on the big screens, there's also another sequel to King's book that we can expect: Doctor Sleep. An adaptation to King's The Shining, the sequel sees Danny Torrance, now a grown man, dealing with the trauma he suffered at the Overlook Hotel. Weening himself off from years of anger and alcoholism, Danny meets another person who also has the same psychic power as him: Abra Stone.
There are many things to be excited for with Doctor Sleep. One, Ewan McGregor plays Danny; two, as you can see from the trailer below, the movie will pay homages to The Shining; three, Mike Flanagan, who wrote and directed Netflix's The Haunting of Hill House, has also written and directed Doctor Sleep (Flanagan has also adapted another one of King's works, Gerald's Game).
Given Flanagan's track record with the horror genre, we can expect Doctor Sleep to be as frightening as the book itself, and hopefully a better-adapted work by Stephen King. (Anybody remembers The Dark Tower? Eccch…)
Doctor Sleep will be in theatres on 8 November 2019.
