Starring the Kim Convenience's actor, Liu plays the titular Shang-Chi, a martial artist who is trying to escape his family's legacy of the Ten Rings. Remember them? Fronted by the Mandarin (played by Sir Ben Kingsley) who later turned out to be an actor hired by Aldrich Killian to be the scapegoat for his research facility's screw-up.
And just when we thought that the Mandarin was just a spook story, a short film called All Hail the King that was released on the Thor: The Dark World Blu-ray revealed that the Mandarin is very real, very mad and wants to have a word with Kingsley's character.
Which brings us to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. In this film, the Mandarin is portrayed by Hong Kong's Tony Leung Chiu-wai and director, Destin Daniel Cretton, promises that the character will have more depths and humanity than its comic book stereotype.
If the teaser is anything to go by (Kung-fu! Awkwafina! Ronny Chieng with a dyed faux hawk!), we can't wait for the trailer. Hell, the movie even.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is expected to be released on September 3, 2021.
