We'll straight up acknowledge that you were clickbaited into this because we'll tell you now; the guest chef cooking the Michelin-starred ramen for you would be yourself. What were you expecting, Chef Yuki Onishi coming down to your narrow kitchen to do you the honours? In the midst of a global pandemic, you entitled brat?
Sarcastic jest aside, that's just what the Tsuta executive chef and director has been working this year. Firstly, perfecting classics, adding new creations, and unveiling them all in the recent menu revamp. We must say that the new dishes are a marked improvement. Do try the complexity that is the Crab Soba and the eyebrow-raising 'RHCP' Mazesoba.
Still, it's the brand's signature Shoyu Soba—a blend of a custom-brewed Wakayama Prefecture shoyu with a curated white shoyu sauce, specialised dashi and finished with a piquant balsamic black truffle sauce—that gets its own instant ramen edition. And they taste good.
And because the point of instant meals is their fuss-free preparation, these premium ramen packs require only a fantastic minute and a half of boiling as the noodles come pleasantly doughy instead of characteristically brittle. The liquid soup sachets carry the same savoury flavours and like the MSG-free original broth, does not leave you thirsty after. As far as instant food go, that's impressive as hell.
Plus, being your own chef—hey, we came full circle—means that you get to control how concentrated you want your soup, and how firm you want your noodles; options you can't exactly get in the restaurants. Priced at SGD21.90 for a box of three servings, the packs are currently on pre-order basis with limited stock.
