At this point possibly equally known for impressive collaborations as their skate shoes, Vans cements its creative partnership with Opening Ceremony with a proper, extensive collection released by both brands. What stemmed from previously limited-edition drops on the label and multi-brand retailer has now blossomed into aa global debut, focusing on one key aspect.
“For this new capsule collection, Carol and I are inspired to reinvent the checkerboard, taking a new graphic approach to Vans' classic pattern," says Opening Ceremony Creative Director Humberto Leon. While still preserving the all-over repeat pattern of positive and negative space, a closer look will reveal motifs of the snake and leopard.
You'll see this on the set of track-suit inspired jacket, complete with front zipper closure, toggle fasteners and hidden hood, as well as the relaxed-fit trousers that designed with a zipper flap and welt pockets. Heck, make it a full look with the printed tote that's inserted with soft padding and embellished with a novelty Vans x OC rubber patch.
For choice of footwear, the OC founders have zeroed in on a classic. The original Authentic will carry the leopard print across the uppers and sole, with a snake variation in red. The Authentic QLT gets an elevated approach in the high-octane orchid and Baja blue, finished with quilted vamp and lateral stitching. The deal is sealed with each emblazoned with the eye-catching Opening Ceremony woven patch on the heel.
Vans x Opening Ceremony will be available online and select stores from 26 February in Singapore.
