Fashion at times works in a flat circle, with trends and fads cycling in and out. Take for example destination shows, that was a staple of the womenswear universe, and has now become all the rage for menswear. Think back to Dior Men showing in Tokyo for its pre-fall collection, the recent Prada show in Shanghai, and Saint Laurent's show in Malibu.
We are also witnessing the division of the co-ed show, but the reason is less political; rather, it is a pragmatic strategy to grow and elevate the menswear collection. Co-ed shows are easier to help present a collective vision for a house, a point that is vastly important when a new designer is taking over the reins. But as the designers find their footing and strengthen their design codes—coupled with the fact that men are taking a greater interest in their clothing—it makes perfect sense to start separating the men's from the women's to highlight each universe.
Case in point: Givenchy's artistic director Clare Waight Keller who will be showing her first dedicated menswear show at Pitti Uomo 96. If the invitation offers any clues, it will be a floral-inspired affair for Givenchy's spring/summer 2020 men's show. Catch all the action through the live stream below for the full confirmation.
