No New Year's Eve countdown is complete rounding off the festivities with a dazzling display of fireworks that illuminates the night sky in shimmering shades of crimson, gold and turquoise. Coupled with the metropolitan skyline of Singapore in the background, it makes the yearly feu d'artifice a rewarding visual treat.
There are two main areas where the impressive pyrotechnics happen usually—Marina Bay and Sentosa. But check your calendar before heading down to any of these spots. A quick list of dates to take note: National Day (9 Aug), New Year’s Eve (31 Dec), the final day of Singapore Grand Prix and major music festivals (Ultra Music Festival, ZoukOut).

There is a certainly a sense of omnipotence when we see the world from almost 200m above ground. At MBS, you get to bask in the convivial atmosphere and the magnificent fireworks without having to experience people breathing down your necks. Feeling peckish after? Hit up Spago, CÉ LA VI SkyBar or LAVO on the 57th floor for some cocktails and food. Just remember to make your plans early as the rooms are usually fully booked during these peak periods.

You could also dine at Dolce Vita, an authentic Italian restaurant that has a patio that is right next to the pool so you could hypothetically swim and eat at the same time.

Music festivals locations
There is a high chance you'll get to see fireworks during international music festivals or NYE countdown parties like Ultra Singapore and countdown parties at Siloso Beach that are specially designed for the sets. The caveat? The pyrotechnics are more scaled down compared to the National Day Parade, or the Youth Olympics. However, the heart-thumping music and epilepsy-inducing lights pretty much make up for the vicarious experience.
As much as we want to be where the crowd is, sometimes the best places to catch the fireworks are at your good ole’ HDBs, notably The Pinnacle @ Duxton, Skyville @ Dawson, or even Marina South Pier Carpark, level 3. Get there early and pick a nice comfortable spot.
